Written and directed by debutante duo Jibi and Joju, 'Ittymani : Made in China' is a story around a Christian community in Kunnankulam, Thrissur.
However, the story progresses without overdoing the Thrissur slang, which is a welcome change after so many movies have overdone it to no end. The film, which is 2 hours 38 minutes long, is replete of wit-wordplay comedy and sexual innuendos that are often a hit and miss.
But what really strikes is the lack a concrete storyline in the cinema. 'Ittymani : Made in China' has its moments, mostly in the songs. The music composed by 4 Musics, Kailas Menon, and background score by
Deepak Dev go well for 'Ittymani :Made in China'. Mohanlal, KPAC Lalitha, Raadhika and Siddique, the powerhouse performers they are, save the movie from the dreary and slow-moving storyline that plays to every stereotype in the book. But the rest of cast is hardly any solace.
Ittymani (Mohanlal) was born in China and is infamous for his thriftiness and collecting a commission for every possible service in every unseemly situation. And everytime Ittymani tries to do some good to clear his name he gets into more and more trouble. Plamootil Annamma (Raadhika), Ittichan's mother's friend and his friend's mother, is a lonely widow. Ittichan tries to help Annamma in getting her children to give her more attention. But, as is usual with Ittichan, things get complicated and matters take an unexpected twist when Annamma falls sick and gets hospitalized.
How will Ittymani get himself out of the soup he got himself into and clear his name?
